Priority Areas

Mountains of Hope selects priorities on an annual basis. The 2009-2010 priority areas include:

  • Improve healthy dietary habits
  • Promote physical activity
  • Address major barriers to early detection of cancers
  • Educate about cancer screening guidelines
  • Address major needs of cancer patients and survivors
  • Promote access to high quality cancer resources

Mountains of Hope teamed up with West Virginia native and Grammy award winning country music artist Kathy Mattea, to promote colorectal cancer screening around the state by focusing on Kathy‚Äôs personal story about how she lost her father to colorectal cancer. The result of this collaboration is a series of public service announcements (PSAs) that are currently being aired throughout West Virginia on both radio and television.  Click here to view the 60-second spot: Kathy Mattea Colorectal Cancer PSA
